About College of Medicine – Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies
The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies (GSBSPS) offers over 40 doctoral, master's and professional development programs. These academic programs emphasize real-world experience and help guide students to make career decisions that best fit their abilities and evolving needs.
The GSBSPS at Drexel University’s College of Medicine offers the Human Lactation Consultant Program (CHLC) certificate which is a part-time, one-year program designed to provide an opportunity for individuals to prepare to become internationally board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC). The program, offered in an online and in-person hybrid format at Drexel’s Center City Campus, provides the required 90 hours of didactic coursework and 300 hours of supervised practice in lactation that are part of Pathway 2 program which is accredited by LEAARC/CAAHEP.
Job Summary
The Human Lactation Consultant Certification program offers four 2-credit didactic courses in lactation (Introduction to Lactation, Clinical Issues in Human Lactation I, Clinical Issues in Human Lactation II and Public Policy of Breastfeeding) along with two 4-credit supervised practice experiences (Lactation Supervised Practice) to be completed in the Philadelphia area, but potential arrangements for distance sites can be discussed with program director.
Essential Functions
As an adjunct faculty member, you are responsible for creating a syllabus in accordance with University guidelines or teaching the course in accordance with the syllabus and course materials if they are provided by Drexel. You are also responsible for teaching the course section(s), making yourself available to students, maintaining accurate documentation of course records to justify the grades submitted, submitting student grades in accordance with University policy, and any other duties directly related to the course as assigned by the department head or program director. You also need to submit a copy of your grade sheet(s) to the department or unit no later than one week after the submission of your grades. Arrangements for grades of Incomplete or any grade appeals that may extend beyond the end of your contract must be made with the Program Director.

Time spent in the position of an adjunct faculty member does not count toward tenure or any probationary period. Some adjunct faculty members may qualify for specific Drexel benefits that are described at http://www.drexel.edu/fde/adjunct-faculty/resources/.
Your appointment is expressly contingent upon the course section(s) meeting minimum student enrollment requirements as determined by the University. While the University makes every effort to plan course schedules according to anticipated demand, course section enrollments and curricular priorities may change. The University reserves the right to cancel a course at any time. In the event that a section or course is cancelled for any reason prior to the first class session, your appointment to teach that section will be rescinded. If the course cancellation occurs less than seven calendar days prior to the first class session, and if the University is unable to offer you reassignment to a comparable class, the University shall compensate you $250 with the exception of those graduate courses that constitute thesis supervision.
