Job Summary
This position has a responsibility for supporting key components of a comprehensive Risk Management program for the University and its affiliates.
This is a hybrid position, working in person a few times a week.
Essential Functions
- Insurance:
- Manage physician application for professional liability insurance including risk management review, submission of all necessary information to the underwriter for approval, and the issuance of certificate.
- Work with clinical departments to ensure annually that the schedule of insured physicians and other clinical staff is accurate prior to the start of each policy year.
- Manage all physician and other clinical staff deletions, additions, and changes.
- Advise insurance broker of such changes throughout the year.
- Manage and respond to claim history requests for current and prior insured physicians, clinical staff, and students for all health sciences (CNHP, COM, COAS), including Drexel at Salus staff and students.
- Provide certificates of insurance for contracts/agreements.
- Obtain certificates of insurance from broker for distribution to the programs and departments which require them.
- Assist with annual professional liability insurance renewal, including identifying all physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, psychologists, all other clinical staff, and allied healthcare employees, the number of hours worked by each, and their clinical roles and credentials.
- Collect and report data on all patient encounters throughout the University and the number of students by college and program.
- Provide a description of services for all areas with patient or client contact.
- Review insured provider rosters provided by broker for accuracy.
- Assist with annual insurance renewal.
- Collect data and material needed by insurance underwriters to quote renewal prices including annual financial statements, payroll, property values, art values, auto fleet list and driver list, student headcounts, employee concentrations, etc.
- Schedule and assist with the collection of meeting materials for the annual Trust and Captive meetings.
- Claims Management:
- Open potentially compensable event files, non-party deposition files, and claim files utilizing TPA software as well as maintain these files.
- Submit notification of claims to Mcare and the Department of Public Welfare.
- Assist outside legal counsel with the coordination of investigations of claims, obtain medical records, billing records, policies and procedures, contracts, and requested information to defend the claim.
- Process requests for approval of indemnity reserves.
- Process payments of professional liability claims.
- Prepare the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) reporting forms.
- Maintain litigation management listing of deadline dates including trial ready and trial certain dates.
- Assist with providing information for independent financial audits such as status reports and legal expenses.
- Risk Management:
- Act as department lead on analysis of insurance loss data.
- Process departmental invoices and expenses including insurance premiums.
- Prepare monthly workers’ compensation claim reports.
- Prepare monthly report for the Accident Review Committee.
- Monitor the Risk Management Department budget.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Business Analytics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.
- Minimum of 3 years working in a professional setting, preferably in insurance, risk and/or claims management (internships will be considered).
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze information and provide resolutions.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and function in an academic environment with a high volume of work.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong technology skills with the ability to use advanced techniques in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) products.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, in case of emergency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education institution.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630 -$81,940 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
