Job Summary

Teaching assistants support instructors in managing a series of educational experiences aligned with the course learning objectives, while also supporting students in navigating and meeting expectations for the course. The role of teaching assistants can vary, depending on the instructor’s needs for TA support and the nature of the course.

TAs may be required to attend a training session or series of sessions as part of their role. Details to be provided.

Essential Functions

  • Managing the course Blackboard page (posting course materials or assignments, editing and posting videos, assuring that student access to posted weekly course content is up-to-date, maintaining awareness of student queries or concerns, posting scores and maintaining the Blackboard gradebook, tracking late assignments and reductions in scores for late assignments, communications via announcements or Blackboard email). 
  • Serving as a point of contact for students with inquiries about anticipated absence or difficulties. 
  • Assisting the instructor’s review of assignments, such as downloading and assembling posted assignments for instructor’s review, returning reviewed/scored assignments to students.
  • Grading assignments using answer keys and rubrics. 
  • Holding weekly office hours.
  • Other responsibilities for supporting the instructor and students as needed. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong written communication and proofreading skills
  • Experience working with statistical computing software, including SAS (required) and R (preferred / optional)
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment
  • Commitment to supporting student accountability

Additional Information

This is a Part-Time temporary position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
