Job Summary

The Co-op Advisor will assist a group of students in achieving suitable cooperative education experiences across a variety of majors around the globe. The Co-op Advisor will also support a group of employers in achieving their talent acquisition goals. Additionally, the Co-op Advisor is expected to cultivate and maintain a strong relationship with the corresponding academic unit related to the majors the Advisor supports. This requires that the Co-op Advisor have a high degree of ability to manage relationships, understand nuance and manage multiple and competing high level challenges at the same time.

This position will work primarily in-person, on-campus, with ability to work remotely a couple times a week.

Essential Functions

  • Employer Relationship Management
    • Serve as a liaison official between the University and employers regarding administrative and operating requirements for the cooperative education program.
    • Review and audits all posted jobs for accuracy and appropriateness.
    • Maintain the high quality of the co-op program by auditing employer satisfaction.
    • Consult with Office of Civil Rights, Office of General Counsel and in the case of Drexel University as the employer, Human Resources.
    • Visit employer locations, as requested or as required, if challenges with the employer arise.
  • Student Relationship Management
    • Function as the primary contact with a group of students.
    • Create and manage student employment opportunities in assigned fields in regional, national and international setting; assist with career-related programs for undergraduate students.
    • Meet with students one-on-one to assist them with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, job search techniques, and industry trends.
    • Respond to student and employer concerns while they are working.
    • Develop jobs in assigned majors through networking, faculty leads and outreaching to new employers. 
    • Run reports to monitor and analyze student eligibility for coop, progress in the job search and credit awarded for co-op.
    • Evaluate, consider and approve jobs for co-op credit.
    • Process paperwork for co-op related major changes and concentration changes.
    • Monitor progress of students in online modules, including follow up to students who are not progressing successfully.
  • Academic Partnership Relationship Management
    • Work closely with the academic departments in supporting the integration between academics and cooperative education.
    • Develop career/industry related programming and conduct work regarding the students academic plan and progress towards degree.
    • Mitigate administrative hurdles between Drexel administrative offices including the Bursar, Financial Aid, the Registrar and the Academic Advising.
    • Represent the Co-operative Education program at Admission/Enrollment events. 
  • Other duties/opportunities as assigned:
    • Support the following Steinbright-related functions: mock interviews, career fairs, career prep workshops, information sessions, hiring committees. 
    • Opportunity to teach COOP 101 and/or participate in Committees as needed. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous and nuanced relationship management challenges.
  • Strong interest assisting students to locate meaningful work experiences in related majors.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends to support events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using OAS or similar reporting software.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120 - $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
