Job Summary
The Professional Academic Coach will assist undergraduate and graduate students through one-on-one consultations to develop and strengthen skills that promote academic resilience, confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-regulated learning. Working with the academic coach, students will be encouraged to set goals and work towards accomplishing them through targeted action planning and the identification and utilization of resources. The academic coach will be responsible for responding to the individualized academic support and learning needs of students on their caseload. Through one-on-one meetings and other programming, the academic coach will assist students with the development and monitoring of their academic success skills (e.g. organization and planning; test preparation and study skills; and adaptive strategies for learning) and use of services.
This position is primarily in-person, working 1 day remotely.
This position is grant-funded; employment is contingent upon the continued availability of those funds.
Essential Functions
- Maintain a student caseload of 35-38 active students per term
- Assist students with developing and implementing appropriate learning plans and strategies
- Assist students with relevant executive functioning skill development related to the students’ academic success
- Maintain a clear understanding of student support resources available across the university and coordinate referrals for students to appropriate university services (e.g. tutoring, academic advising, etc.);
- Create and maintain documentation of student meetings in a timely manner
- Conduct appropriate student follow-up
- Facilitate workshops and presentations; deliver programs to a variety of external audiences including families, prospective students, and other partners;
- Teach 1-2 sections of GSTD100: Strategies for Academic Success
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of CLASS
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master's Degree in education, psychology, social work, disability studies or other relevant field, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in academic coaching which includes the use of competency-based individualized instruction, preferably in a comprehensive learning center
- Relevant experience working with students at the secondary or post-secondary level
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for event support

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $45,330 - $68,000 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
