Job Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Corporate & Executive Education, the Part-Time Business Development Director will support revenue growth by identifying, developing, and advancing new corporate and organizational opportunities for executive education and customized learning solutions.
The role will focus primarily on business development, relationship building, lead generation, and pipeline development, with an emphasis on identifying organizations with leadership development, talent development, AI, strategy, healthcare, and other executive education needs.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, consultative business development professional who is comfortable engaging senior-level executives, identifying organizational needs, and developing relationships that can lead to new business opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Business Development & Lead Generation:
    • Identify and research prospective corporate, nonprofit, government, and industry clients aligned with Corporate & Executive Education priorities.
    • Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects using Salesforce and other business development tools.
    • Conduct targeted outreach to prospective clients through email, phone, LinkedIn, networking, and other appropriate channels.
    • Identify opportunities within priority industries, including healthcare, financial services, technology, manufacturing, pharma/life sciences, professional services, and government.
    • Monitor industry trends, organizational priorities, and talent-development needs to identify potential opportunities for executive education.
    • Generate introductions and meetings with decision-makers and influencers responsible for leadership development, talent, learning and development, strategy, and organizational transformation.
    • Attend selected conferences, industry events, and networking opportunities to build relationships and identify prospects. 
  • Client Relationship Development:
    • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients.
    • Conduct initial discovery conversations to understand organizational goals, leadership challenges, talent priorities, and development needs.
    • Identify opportunities for customized executive education, leadership development, executive programs, and other learning solutions.
    • Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects and clients to advance opportunities through the business development process.
    • Support post-program relationship development to identify opportunities for repeat business and expanded engagements. 
  • Opportunity Development:
    • Qualify prospective opportunities based on organizational need, potential revenue, strategic fit, timing, and likelihood of conversion.
    • Work with the Executive Director to translate client needs into potential program concepts and solutions.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director, faculty, and program team to develop proposals and presentations for qualified opportunities.
    • Participate in client presentations and proposal discussions as appropriate.
    • Support negotiations and the advancement of opportunities toward contract or engagement. 
  • CRM & Pipeline Management:
    • Maintain accurate and timely records of prospects, contacts, activities, opportunities, and next steps in Salesforce.
    • Provide regular updates on pipeline activity, prospect status, meetings, and emerging opportunities.
    • Track business development activity and results, including qualified leads, meetings, proposals, and conversions.
    • Use available market and business intelligence to identify opportunities and prioritize prospecting efforts.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to execute defined business development priorities and market strategies.
    • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to provide market intelligence and client insights that can inform messaging and outreach.
    • Coordinate with program managers, faculty, academic partners, and other internal stakeholders as opportunities progress.
    • Provide feedback on market demand, emerging client needs, competitive activity, and potential new program opportunities. 
  • The position may involve occasional attendance at industry events, client meetings, and Executive Education events outside of standard business hours. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, sales, management, or a related field preferred or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 4 years or more of experience in business development, consultative sales, account management, executive education, leadership development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and generate business in a B2B environment.
  • Experience engaging senior executives and organizational decision-makers.
  • Strong consultative selling and discovery skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify client needs and translate them into potential solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently manage a pipeline and follow-up activities.
  • Experience using Salesforce or another CRM system.
  • Ability to conduct market research and identify potential clients and business opportunities.
  • High emotional intelligence and strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with university leadership, faculty, and internal teams.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Non-Exempt, grade N. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47.76 - $71.64 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
