Senior Summer Undergraduate Internship in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology

Essential Functions

Senior Summer Undergraduate Intern:

• Incumbent will work semi-independently with faculty and graduate students using the Center for Genomic Science’s Trans-Pan-Domain Assay to provide surveillance for all cellular microbial domains (including bacteria, fungi and parasites) for characterizing and comparing pathobiomes/microbiomes of: 1) Alzheimer’s disease specimens versus controls; and 2) agricultural crops treated and untreated with plasmawater. In addition, incumbent will participate in RNA extractions of agricultural specimens for comparative RNAseq studies using short-read technologies (Illumina-based) and long-read technologies (Pacific Biosciences) to ascertain how much splice pattern information is lost in short-read analyses. This position requires the successful applicant to have completed an academic year of laboratory research and to be skilled in the use of Trans-Pan-Domain Assay, sterile technique, micro-pipetting. 

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience.

Additional Information

This is a Full-Time temporary position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
