Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics
MEM has 26 faculty members, 23 of whom are tenured/tenure track. The Department has well-regarded, traditional programs in mechanics, thermal fluid sciences, systems and controls, and manufacturing which are complemented by advanced energy technologies, tissue engineering, biomechanics, bio-inspired robotics, microfluidics, and plasma science. Drexel University has a state-of-the-art computing facility (https://drexel.edu/research/urcf/) that is being updated in 2020 using a National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation grant and university capital investment. MEM offers an ABET-accredited B.S. programs in Mechanical Engineering. At the graduate level, the Department offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics and recently launched an M.S. program in Robotics, and the nation’s first M.S. in Peace Engineering. The College of Engineering at Drexel University invites applicants with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering for appointment as full-time non-tenure track Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics. The ideal candidate will be expected to have a strong background and experience in design and modeling as well as standard and advanced manufacturing. The candidate should be capable of working with the department leadership team to develop and articulate a vision that will sustain and advance the efforts and facilities of the department in the manufacturing and design area. A willingness to further the department’s strides in undergraduate teaching, scholarship, and graduate education is required as well as the flexibility to advance online, face to face and hybrid instruction modes. A willingness to collaborate with the various other units in the College and University on interdisciplinary projects is also required.
This is a nine-month or twelve-month non-tenure track appointment. Renewal is dependent upon evolving academic program needs, budget and performance. However, the department and the college are committed to investing in advanced manufacturing at all degree levels. The position is intended to be long term with the successful candidate becoming an active member and leader of the program and participating in program planning, curriculum development, and outreach efforts. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, demonstrated leadership abilities and academic experience and a proven record of effective teaching and professional service. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, scholarly achievement and excellence. Desirable teaching qualifications include evidence of excellence in teaching, excellent verbal and written communication skills, interest in a highly collaborative faculty environment. Significant relevant design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing industry experience is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated leadership skills, exemplary service and civic engagement record.
Three years (or equivalent) of teaching experience, and rank commensurate with additional experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level that includes design, analysis, prototyping and final production of engineering parts and assemblies. The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in scholarly research. Teaching will occur at Drexel University's Main Campus, primarily face-to-face but scheduling may include some day, evening, and/or online classes. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer courses for extra compensation.
The successful candidate will be required to engage in service activities that could include serving on various Department, College and University committees, industry and community outreach, and supporting student activities.
