Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time Associate Professor with tenure in Chemical Biology/Biochemistry. The successful candidate will have already established a vigorous and well-funded research program. We are especially interested in researchers who focus on exploring and engineering complex biological systems. She/he will continue and expand her/his vigorous externally funded interdisciplinary research program at Drexel. Collaborative research is encouraged with other departments in the university. With her/his teaching and research the candidate will initiate the development of a curriculum in Chemical Biology. She/he will oversee this development which will include a major influence on the future direction the department will take with regarding life-science/bio-oriented research. The candidate will be responsible for teaching major undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical biology and/or biochemistry. We expect a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and an equally strong readiness and capability to mentor undergraduate, Master and PhD students as well as future junior faculty hires.

The Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) is home to a group of subdisciplines that includes analytical, organic, inorganic, computational, biophysical, chemistry education, and materials chemistry. Many of its research groups are involved in very successful interdisciplinary collaborations with groups in other departments of the university, with strong ties to the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The department highly values and supports undergraduate research that provides our students with hands-on experiences in research laboratories.   • Building a successful and internationally recognized, well-funded research program that involves graduate and undergraduate student education.
  • Teaching chemical biology/biochemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Directing activities that lead to the development of a curriculum for a biochemistry or chemical biology major.
  • Mentoring junior faculty, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Serving on committees on the departmental, college and university level.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Education

PhD or Doctorate in Chemistry or related discipline. 

Prior experience not required.
