Assistant Athletic Trainer – Club Sports

Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of the health care of the Club Sports student-athletes for the Drexel University Recreation Department. Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist with organizational and administrative duties as assigned, as well as supervise athletic training students. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained during participation in Club Sports at Drexel University.

Essential Functions

  • Attend pre- and post-activity treatments and scheduled team practices, home competitions, and selected away competitions.
  • Provide emergency care & injury assessments.
  • Set up and break down hydration units, equipment and gear, before and after events.
  • Implement and coordinate rehab protocols & plans of care including but not limited to musculoskeletal/post-surgical injuries, infections, concussion management, and return to play protocol.
  • Maintain student-athlete record system & adhere to record keeping protocols (HIPAA).
  • Update electronic medical record & hard copies: SOAP notes, progress reports, injury notes, post-op notes, treatment logs, SCAT, etc.
  • Compile data for weekly reports.
  • Assist in clinical affiliation with universities with programs in athletic training and supervising athletic training students from those programs.
  • Order and track training supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with varsity sports medicine, student health center, and team physicians/medical consultants.
  • Assist with developing and implementing Club Sports safety officer program.
  • Assist with maintaining and enforcing an emergency action plan for Club Sports programs.
  • Attend all Department meetings and events.
  • Perform any other duties and/or jobs deemed necessary for the functioning and success of the Sports Medicine Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field and 1 year of experience.
  • Pennsylvania state Licensure through the Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Possess and maintain NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) Board of Certification certification.
  • CPR/AED Certification for Professional Rescuer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in an intercollegiate/recreational athletics or related setting.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification (Red Cross).
  • Master's degree in Sports Medicine or related fields.

Additional Information

This is a part-time Per Diem position classified as Non-exempt. The offered pay is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.
