Job Summary

The Program Coordinator is an integral part of the Family Planning program team at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Section of Adolescent Medicine. The position is responsible for providing sexual and reproductive health counseling services to adolescents within the Family Planning setting and coordinating clinic and community-based efforts around client education, outreach, and prevention.

Manage the day-to-day functions of two full-time Health Resource Center (40hours/wk total); distribute condoms and other safe sex supplies; utilize those occasions to reinforce messages re: safer sex, pregnancy prevention, communication and negotiating healthy relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Provide in-clinic patient counseling support for medical providers and maintain own patient base; provides clients with information on sexual and reproductive health and related topics. Utilize motivational interviewing and other counseling strategies to promote behavior change; create risk reduction plans; and provide screening services for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and HIV.
  • Facilitate the use of comprehensive health services and other health and social services through promotion/marketing and appropriate referrals; works to identify and remove barriers to access for students
  • Manage the day-to-day functions of two full time health resource center, offer Chlamydia, gonorrhea and pregnancy testing to students; distribute condoms and other safe sex supplies; utilize those occasions to reinforce messages re: safer sex, pregnancy prevention, communication and negotiating healthy relationships, administer evidence-based intervention to students
  • Facilitate the use of comprehensive health services and other health and social services through promotion/marketing and appropriate referrals; works to identify and remove barriers to access for students
  • Effectively communicate and create activities to reinforce the goals of the HRC program: 1) Delaying the onset of sexual activity in adolescent, 2) Reducing the of STDs, HIV, and unintended teen pregnancy, 3) Encourage consistent condom use among sexually active students, 4) Provide students with tools to develop healthy decision-makings skills around sexuality, 5) Equip students with the tools to build healthy relationships; also applies to clinic-based counseling
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan and conduct outreach activities within the school to increase awareness of HRC services; working alone or with an intern to conduct workshops and classroom education sessions
  • Attends regularly scheduled HRC meetings and periodic in-service trainings; maintains complete and accurate records of all services via the HRC database, PVA, and internal spreadsheet; ensure adequate effort is made to contact students with positive STI results to receive treatment and counseling
  • Work with the Program Director to identify community partnership opportunities, promote FP services within the hospital and in the surrounding community; maintain communication with community agencies regarding special initiatives, services, and marketing programs.
  • Track and monitor outreach activities, outcomes, collect pertinent data and statistics, create a referral tracking method; assist in implementing and monitor client feedback loop
  • Work with the Program Director to create and manage social media initiatives for Family Planning, create quarterly newsletters, communicate outreach activities to staff and stakeholders, engage staff and encourage participation
  • Represent the program at health fairs, community and networking events, conduct presentations on services, conduct health education presentations as needed, assist in identifying outreach activities for interns
  • Additional responsibilities as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience working in reproductive and sexual health and/or providing direct services to teens.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of comfort working with adolescents and dealing with sexual and reproductive health issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English-Spanish preferred
  • Counseling experience a major plus
