About the English Language Center

The English Language Center (ELC)’s Intensive English Program and International Gateway Program are accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. In addition, the ELC is a member of the University and College Intensive English Programs Consortium (UCIEP) and EnglishUSA.

Job Summary

Adjunct instructors are needed to join our Intensive English program teaching 6-13.5 hours per week for 10 weeks. Academic courses for nonnative speakers of English include but are not limited to: writing/grammar, listening/speaking, reading/vocabulary, content-based English, introduction to university culture, and test preparation.

Essential Functions

  1. Reviewing the course syllabus and updating with section information according to ELC/University course guidelines;
  2. Teaching the course as scheduled;
  3. Scheduling and holding at least one office hour per week;
  4. Being available to students and responding to students’ email inquiries within 24 hours;
  5. Maintaining accurate documentation of course records to justify the grades submitted;
  6. Submitting student grades in accordance with ELC and University policy;
  7. Attending course planning meetings, program welcome events, and final events;
  8. Participating in testing activities related to course assessments;
  9. Accepting observers into your classroom as scheduled;
  10. Providing students with midterm and final progress reports;
  11. Completing and returning student assessments in a timely manner;
  12. Attending ELC Faulty/Staff meetings and additional program events (Optional).
  13. Any other duties directly related to the course as assigned by the department head;
