Job Summary

The Drexel University Physician Assistant (PA) Program seeks an experienced, energetic individual with experience in PA education to join the PA faculty. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor commensurate with previous experience. Drexel’s PA program is one of the nation’s oldest and most established PA programs. Our fully accredited program has 15 full-time faculty, four support staff, and is located in the Health Sciences Division of the College of Nursing & Health Professions (CNHP) — one of Drexel University’s largest colleges. Our program is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty, student body, and the physician assistant workforce. A new faculty member will join the PA program at an exciting time. In August 2022, CNHP moved to the newly constructed Health Sciences Building on Drexel’s main campus in University City, Philadelphia. This state-of-the-art health education and research building houses CNHP’s many departments (https://drexel.edu/cnhp/academics/departments/), the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences & Professional Studies, and Drexel’s College of Medicine. Our new facilities are among the best in the nation and position Drexel as a leading destination for learners, clinicians, researchers, and industry partners. In addition to Drexel University, the University City section of Philadelphia is home to the University of Pennsylvania, the Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. University City is a regional hub for innovation and development in technology and the life sciences. It’s a vibrant part of the city with a growing number of restaurants, businesses, and wellness spaces.

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with the Program Director, Associate Program Director, and Curriculum Coordinator to provide education for students in the PA program
  • Assist in planning and implementation of assigned curricular and programmatic strategies
  • Participates in development and continuation of curriculum to ensure alignment with ARC-PA accreditation standards and the NCCPA blueprint.
  • Participate in didactic course lab and lecture instruction quarterly.
  • Develop assigned course lectures based on learning objectives. Assist in planning and course design of specified courses as assigned.
  • Develop new clinical site relationships
  • Work closely with associate program director regarding student status changes leave of absences, resignations or dismissals missing, incomplete, and removal of temporary grades. Maintain accurate record keeping on the status of students in the program.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including but not limited to:
    • ARC-PA self-study process
    • Rotation and Primary Care Practicum student site visits
    • Student society events o Program and alumni special events
    • White coat ceremony and senior celebration
  • Represent Drexel PA program at local, state and national PA meetings/conferences.
  • Faculty responsibilities include:
    • Course director and/or co- course director for 3 quarters per year
    • Provide various course lectures for students on a regular basis
    • Service on committees to the program, college and university
    • Participate in regular scholarly activities and research projects
    • Serve as graduate project advisor to at least 4 students yearly.
    • Serve as faculty advisor to a group of students in every cohort.
    • Attendance at PA team meetings and retreats
    • Select applicants for admission by reviewing CASPA admission folders weekly and participating in interviews of applicants
    • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
    • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement for the program.
    • Assuring PA student competencies are tested and recorded efficiently

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Physician Assistant or related discipline
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Certified Physician Assistant with PA education experience or other professional with education experience in PA curriculum (i.e. PharmD, Evidence Based Medicine, Public Health, etc.)
  • Excellence in classroom and/or clinical teaching
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and health equity
  • Evidence of demonstrated commitment to student achievement and success as well as strong support for faculty development and a commitment to collaboration within the PA program and across the institution a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of successful and effective teaching in a physician assistant education program
  • Evidence of demonstrated commitment to student success
  • Identifies as a member of an underrepresented population in the physician assistant profession
  • Knowledge of and experience in the ARC-PA accreditation process
