Job Summary

The Director of Student Conduct and Care is responsible for managing all aspects of the University’s student conduct process.

The Director of Student Conduct serves as a member of the Student Life Leadership Team and reports directly to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Life (AVP/DoSL). As a member of the Leadership Team, they are responsible for actively engaging in wide-ranging long-term and short-term decision-making and planning for the unit. As an individual leader, they participate fully in all discussions and represent their area as well as the broader Student Life culture, vision, mission, values, and outcomes.

As a member of the Leadership Team, they are responsible for the upholding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their daily work and interactions with colleagues and students. The Director makes a significant effort to know every team member in the unit through both formal and informal interactions, one- on-ones, and attendance at departmental meetings and events.

The Director is accountable for the administration of a comprehensive Student Conduct program consistent with the mission and values of Drexel University and Student Life. The Director is responsible for identifying and developing programs, policies, and systems that will foster a positive learning environment and encourages students to assume responsibility for their actions and fosters respect for the rights and values of others.

The Director collaborates with other parts of the University to avoid duplication of services, serves on relevant University committees and task forces, and seeks out opportunities to ensure Student Life is well-represented across campus and in our field.

Essential Functions

  • Manage all aspects of the student conduct process in an ethical and equitable way.
  • Direct the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of all professional staff in Student Conduct.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and programs that provide for the safety, security, and ensure an environment that supports academic progress and student success.
  • Investigate and review all formal complaints, determine appropriate conduct charges, and manage the process for issuing decisions and sanctions.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture (EIC) to support the adjudication of EIC-1 and EIC-3 policies.
  • Oversee the annual recruitment and training of the University Conduct and Appeals Boards comprised of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Review and update the Student Code of Conduct annually.
  • Interpret University rules, regulations and standards of conduct and the Student Code of Conduct to all inquiring parties.
  • Meet regularly with colleagues from Residence Life and Fraternity and Sorority Life to understand student conduct matters and develop educational initiatives in the residence halls/Greek properties.
  • Coordinate and disseminate quarterly statistical reports regarding trends in student behavior.
  • Oversee the departmental budget and in coordination with the AVP/DOSL develop a strategy for reinvesting the monies collected through student conduct fines in educational opportunities for students and professional staff.
  • Serve as a resource for all disciplinary matters for the College of Medicine and the Kline School of Law.
  • Supervise a small team of professional staff within Student Conduct.
  • Serve on Student Life Leadership Team under direction of the Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Life to facilitate management of Student Life overall.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders both within Student Life and across the university community to ensure maximum service and student success.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces and respond to and coordinate issues involving Student Life.
  • Work on an on-call scheduled as needed to support and properly manage departmental functions, student emergencies, and crises.
  • Serve in crisis response chain requiring immediate availability and respond to professional staff calls in crisis situations.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in higher ed, with 2 years of experience in higher education student conduct.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of the needs of non-traditional students and commitment to social justice issues.
  • Experience promoting innovation and creativity among staff and students.
  • Ability to be student-centered and uphold the standards of conduct in an equitable and ethical manner.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently while working in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an on-call rotation.
  • Experience utilizing Maxient or similar case management software.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.

This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200-$112,790 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
