Job Summary

The TA for this online graduate public health course will support the instructor by managing course materials, monitoring student progress, and facilitating communication through Blackboard. They will provide timely feedback on assignments, assist with grading, and help ensure students understand key public health concepts. Additionally, the TA will help maintain smooth course operations by addressing technical or logistical issues and supporting an engaging online learning environment.

Essential Functions

  • Keeping up with lectures and class readings to effectively grade student assignments and answer questions.
  • Assisting with managing the instructor’s review of assignments, such as downloading and assembling posted assignments for instructor’s review, returning reviewed/scored assignments to students.
  • Assisting with grading assignments, which might range from partial or full responsibility for grading specific assignments, commensurate with the complexity of the assignment and the TA’s experience and background.
  • Providing feedback on students’ assignments using the grading rubric provided by the instructor Responding to students’ discussion board contributions.
  • Recording grades and updating student records in Blackboard Managing the course Blackboard page, including but not limited to posting course materials on Blackboard, posting online assignments, editing and posting videos, assuring that student access to posted weekly course content is up-to-date, tracking students’ engagement on Blackboard, maintaining awareness of student queries or concerns as manifest on Blackboard, posting scores and maintaining the Blackboard gradebook, tracking late assignments and reductions in scores for late assignments, supporting communications with students via announcements or Blackboard email.
  • Posting approved announcements for the course in Blackboard Uploading questions from the instructor to Blackboard to create quizzes or tests Promptly answering questions, emails, and other messages from students Checking-in briefly on a regular basis with the lead instructor Other duties as assigned

Additional Information

This is a Part-Time casual position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
