Job Summary

The RCM A/R Analyst is responsible for resolving outstanding balances due from patients and insurance payers. This includes cultivating strong working relationships with payer representatives and professionally communicating directly with patients, some of whom may also be Drexel University students or employees. This position is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and resolving claim denials and claims lacking a timely response. The Analyst identifies denial trends, devises action plans, and assists with the training of practice staff on new and existing denial mitigation efforts. The individual collaborates with revenue cycle and practice staff throughout Drexel Medicine to ensure efficiency of the revenue cycle from the point of registration through payment of claims. The RCM A/R Analyst also reconciles daily deposits, posts payments and write-offs, and resolves credits balances.

Essential Functions

  • Resolve outstanding accounts receivable due from insurances companies and patients,
  • Follow up on unprocessed claims by requesting electronic claims status, reviewing payer websites, and contacting payers by phone.
  • Contact patients about outstanding balances or to obtain additional information required to submit insurance claims.
  • Investigate root cause of denials by reviewing claims and remittances; contact payers to resolve invalid denials and payment variances.
  • Work with RCM team and clinical departments to gather information necessary to appeal denials or reprocess claims.
  • Follow up on status of pending claim appeals.
  • Utilize billing system work queues to expedite account resolution.
  • Enter complete and accurate documentation of resolution efforts in billing system.
  • Conduct daily review of all assigned work queues to ensure high priority items have been recently reviewed.
  • Conduct daily reconciliation of deposits related to physician services revenue.
  • Post electronic and manual payments from insurance companies and patients.
  • Identify excessively aged or uncollectable accounts and post write-offs as necessary.
  • Resolve edits by correcting claim and registration data to optimize clean claim rate.
  • Resolve outstanding credit balances by requesting retractions from payers, submitting refund check requests, or posting appropriate transaction adjustments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in related field.
  • Certifications in applicable revenue cycle functions desired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of highly responsible experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Candidate must be a competent revenue cycle professional who is committed to process improvement.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physician faculty, staff, patients, students, parents, and other partners, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, professionalism, openness, creativity, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in medical group management, academic medicine, and revenue cycle management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Values diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of operations and clinical care.
