Job Summary 

The College of Computing and Informatics seeks a Senior Academic Advisor that provides educational guidance to students by connecting students with appropriate paths of study to achieve their educational goals within a specific school/program in the university or within a specific field of study.  This person also plays a lead role for CCI advising within the advising team and across the University.

Essential Functions 

  • Provide one-one-one advising to undergraduate and/or graduate CCI students regarding curriculum issues, academic progress, and other related matters; advise students on college and university regulations and refer them to appropriate university resources.
  • Serve as advising liaison or contact point for a selection of committees and processes (e.g., assessment, accreditation, articulation, athletics, curriculum etc.
  • Mentor and provide training to less experienced advisors.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Advising and Student Success and Associate Director manage escalated student issues.
  • Act as the student liaison between other departments; possess a thorough understanding of university policies, procedures, requirements, and effectively communicate them to
  • Manage all aspects of freshman onboarding (freshman blocks, advance placement exam credit, scores, and processing) and student confirmation reporting. students.
  • Curriculum development, planning, and teach freshman seminar (UNIV 101).

Standard Advising Duties:

- Maintain the confidentiality of student records and other information according to FERPA regulations.

- Efficiently and professionally support students with clear communication, concerned care, creative and timely solutions to problems.

- Communicate with faculty and department heads regarding issues pertaining to student academic or conduct issues.

- Assist students with the registration process and resolve any problems they may encounter; maintain lines of communication with faculty, administration, and students.

- Pre-clear candidates for graduation, making sure all requirements for degree are met.

- Attend student recruitment and retention events.

- This includes evening and weekend work.

Other specific projects/duties as assigned.

 Required Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.  
  • A minimum of 3 years of advising, counseling, or higher education experience

Other requirements:

  • Possess excellent oral, written, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess subject matter expertise including extensive knowledge of the university’s educational offerings.
  • Possess strong customer service focus.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as exempt, Grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 to $71,230 per year.

Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
